SLY Disciples of Christ SLY MISSION STATEMENT: The mission of SLY (St. Luke Youth) is to guide the development of Catholic values, to help the youth develop a deeper appreciation of the meaning of Jesus in their lives, to foster spiritual growth, to involve the youth in reaching out to serve people in need in our community as well as provides social and recreational activities. GOALS: The St. Luke Youth group is divided into two sections: 2. A Senior High Youth Ministry for teens grades 9 through 12 and young adults in collage. 3. Youth Board Ministry which is a team of both Jr. and Sr. youth put together by the Youth Director. This team meets once a month to train for Church Youth Leadership and help assist the director in making plans for the entire youth ministry. Each group meets at least twice a month at 7pm in the Youth Center. The First Sunday of each month is a Youth Board Meeting. The second Sunday of each month is a Joint meeting for all groups. The third Sunday is for the Jr. group and the 4th Sunday is for the Senior group. The purpose of our Youth Ministry is to provide an opportunity for young people to discover themselves and their church in a positive, Christian atmosphere. Activities vary monthly, but include spiritual, service, and social elements. Activities include: dances, field trips, conferences, festivals, retreats, sports activities, and community service projects as well as spiritual and moral topics of discussion in meetings. The group is affiliated with the Archdiocesan CYO/Youth Ministry and participates in activities such as World Youth Day, and the bi-annual National Catholic Youth Conference. We also attend Archdiocese events like World Youth Day, Abbey Youth Fextival, and NCYC. Our Youth Ministry interacts with other ministries at St. Luke’s to encourage our young people to participate in the life of faith community.
SLY – DISCIPLES OF CHRIST The Youth Board Ministry is an elected group of Senior/Junior youth members who serve the Ministry and work with the Youth Ministers. To be an elected member of the Youth Board you must be an active and devoted registered SLY member for at least two years The board is divided as follows:
Ministry is a service rendered out of love, and with deep respect for the person served, after the model of Jesus Christ. Ministry is never self-seeking; ministry is giving and it is the kind of giving in which one loves the persons one gives to. To bring joy, to bring relief from pain and sorrow, to end anxiety and fear, to share what enriches this ministry.
